Before you start
Make sure you know how to set up the ad network. Read the Getting Started guide.
Navigate to the "Ad Unit Codes" step of the setup wizard in your Paved account to retrieve your header code and ad unit code.
Merge tags for this ESP
Paved will automatically insert the correct merge tags when you select Kit (ConvertKit) from the ESP list in your account. For reference, the tags used are:
Email ID: {{ subscriber.email_address }}
Campaign ID: {{ 'now' | date: "%X" }}
How to install the header code
In your Paved account, copy the provided header code for your ad placement.
In Kit, go to Send > Email Templates and click + New Email Template.
Scroll down and select Create HTML Template.
Paste your base email HTML into the template editor.
Locate the </head> closing tag.
Paste your Paved header code directly above the </head> tag.
Click Save.
How to install the ad unit code
In your Paved account, click Copy Code to copy the ad unit code.
In the HTML Template editor, locate the position in the email body where the ad should appear — typically within or just below the {{ message_content }} section.
Paste the ad unit code at that location.
Click Save.
Alternatively, if adding the ad to an individual broadcast, click the + icon in the email editor, select HTML to add an HTML block, and paste the ad unit code into the block.
Adding the ad to a reusable template
To avoid re-inserting the ad code with every send:
Add the Paved ad unit code to your HTML template and set it as your default template.
All new broadcasts using this template will include the ad automatically.
Testing your ad placement
Use your ESP's preview to check the visual layout before sending.
⚠ Do not send a test email. Do not use test sends to verify your Paved ad. Test emails often strip or fail to populate merge tags, which will cause a broken ad request. Instead, send a real email to:
The Paved draft email address provided in your Paved account
Yourself and/or your team
Your Paved account manager (if applicable)
